Ladies and Gentlemen, from the internet, this is your writer speaking… writer?... Typer? Typing?... Speaking?... Yes!
Welcome to the first blog for The Jet Sim School I really hope you do enjoy!
You will have to bear with me as I am new to this blogging business but I would like to share with you some things you may or may not already know – Things that I personally find of interest and think are worth sharing!
Little bit about me: the writer of this blog. I am 20 years old and my name is Sam, I’m the latest addition to the Team Jet Sim family, I will explain in more detail just who Team Jet Sim are in a bit. It’s my ambition to become an airline pilot; preferably on a 737 of some description (Though not fussy!) and I like to think I am still heading for that end goal of being up front in the left hand seat – of a car with someone else driving!
Anywho, less of me and more of what we are up to and the things going on, so here is a line up of what we will be covering today - sit back, relax and enjoy!
…Or sit forwards and tense up - whichever tickles your fancy!
Jet Sim School
Let’s get started then, and where better to do so than with our home itself, The Jet Sim School.
Who are we and what do we do; well, we are a professional fixed base full procedural flight simulator (Try saying that 10 times!) replicating the Boeing 737-800 series of aircraft.
Our beloved sim has a name (just as any good piece of kit should) and her name is Janet.
“Why Janet?” I hear you ask. Another story for another time young one. Janet is however fully functional from the GPWS test button with it’s two cycles through to the full CDU programming and the 737 throttle levers, she works as a real 737 would.
We use the sim in the wonderful world of Lockheed Martin’s Prepar3D V4.2, complete with airports spanning many destinations worldwide
Ever fancied flying a 737 airliner into Heathrow at night? Or perhaps the famous Maho Beach experience at TNCM? Perhaps you want to soar over the New York skyline… You can do all of these with us, Janet is available for flying experiences, details for which will be available elsewhere on this website; take a look!
Team Jet Sim
Now as I said before, I am new to this World Flight business… “What is it?” I used to ask and “what does it do?” Well I can now answer that; being a proud member of Team Jet Sim. World-flight is a round the world flight, starting at Sydney in Australia, going all the way around the globe, airport to airport, until we get back to Sydney.
Jokes aside though, World Flight is a massive event. The pinnacle of the flight simulation hobby. Team Jet Sim are one of many teams taking part to fly around the globe, in real time, spanning about a week. I will cover a couple of focus airports from the route in the coming weeks. Seeing as the route is now available to view.
Team Jet Sim is not just here to fly though, oh no, we are here to raise money while flying.
Following on from last year where we raised money for the air ambulance, this year we are raising money for Calm! The Campaign Against Living Miserably – A charity that provides a helpline to aid men in need, ones who are at risk of taking their own lives.
This is a charity we are all in favour of at Team Jet Sim, raising for a cause that is brushed over by most people, we are here to change that and raise awareness of this issue affecting not only the UK, but the world as a whole, a completely preventable killer.
So far we have raised a whopping £819.99 and this total will keep going up!
World Flight route release – It’s finally here! The route is live, we now know where we are going, this year our home destination here in the UK is Leeds. We are bringing Janet home! As said, I will explain ‘Janet’ later on and you will then get why she is coming home soon! The eagle amongst you though will probably put 1 and 1 together and work it out why the Jet is coming home, if you do and can figure it out already then you are smart… well done!
Cabin crew seats for takeoff… Janet is getting a bit of a makeover. Flight simulators like ours are fantastic when you are up front flying, but what is it like in the back with your friend/family member at the controls of a 737, some 6 miles up? Soon you will be able to find out. We are building a full scale 737NG forward cabin. This will have all the bells and whistles, literally – we have the life jackets (whistles) and the cabin bing-bongs (Bells). Our cabin is a work in progress at the moment but will keep everyone posted when the next step happens, the floor is already in, it’s like a huge Airfix kit!
So seeing as World Flight is out, what better thing to look at than an airport from the route, this month we will focus on Sydney. A great place to start with as that’s where we will be starting our journey.
Sydney YSSY is the first airport we tackle this year. Home of the kangaroo tails, our little 737 will be sat in territory she doesn’t very often find herself – bless her little CDUs.
“Put another shrimp on the barbi” the locals might be saying, but for air traffic control that week it’ll be “Put another plane on the runway!!!!” given how busy world flight will make this hub.
Sydney’s Kingsford Smith airport boasts 3 runways, including 2 parallel; with a couple of main aprons it should have adequate space for all at world flight this year – one would hope.
A few facts:
Built: Early 1900s
Home to: Jetstar
Runways: 07/25 8301’ Asphalt
16L/34R 7999’ Asphalt
16R/34L 12999’ Asphalt

Good scenery for flight sim is available across the internet (none are affiliated)
Freeware via Avsim and Flightsim.com too
So I should start to round this off, and having started this I feel I could go on for ages, there is so much going on and this was just scratching the surface. I will be doing another one of these soon and we will get into some other things, thinking perhaps the 737 and some of the cool things you can do with it? Who knows, but if this has been good then do let us know, we always like feedback, if there is a topic you would like to see covered then do let us know and I will try my best!
