Congratulations – you’re getting married! There will be lots of planning now, the venue, the food, the dress, the guest list and so much more. Some of this wedding planning will be easy; some may not be quite so easy. However there is something else you need to remember. Your Wedding Gift List. This is a fun thing to plan and a lovely thing for you and your partner to talk about and discuss.
Some people feel awkward about having a gift list. However, it is likely your guests will want to buy you a present. Without guidance you could end up with 7 toasters and 5 kettles. Unless you own a bed and breakfast, this probably won’t be useful!
So why not tell your guests what you would like?
If you and your partner have been living together for some time then you might not wants things for the house. Instead you may choose vouchers for your favourite shop or restaurant. Maybe you could ask guests to pay towards your honeymoon? Perhaps some experiences that you can enjoy together might be more up your street?
It’s a good idea to have a selection of options on your wedding gift list and these should be at different price points. This then covers those friends at work, and grandparents – who may choose to spend different amounts on your gifts.
It is recommended that you have a third of the amount of gifts as there are guests. This gives guests plenty of options, even if they leave it to the last minute.
For larger gifts you could set up a way of donations towards it. For example if you would love to have a couples flying experience with us, you could ask guests to put money in the pot towards the experience. This way you’ll still get to enjoy the amazing couples flying experience and you’ll have lots of guests to thank for it.
Alternatively, if you have a honeymoon planned and would like donations towards it, why not list some experiences you want to do and guests can pay for that? Alternatively they could pay for some cocktails on your honeymoon, or champagne and treats on the flight out to your honeymoon?
Don’t forget, if you’re a nervous flyer we run nervous flyer sessions so you can always book one of those to calm your nerves before your honeymoon?
If you’re feeling really generous and charitable, you could have an option to donate to a charity of your choice. This is a great feel-good option and is a nice touch for your guests too. This is especially the case if you explain why this charity is close to your heart.
